Our favourite podcast ‘To Here Knows When‘ continues to be a joy and a mine of information. In the most recent episode host Paul McDermott has an extensive chat with Ken Sweeney of Brian who’s 1992 Setanta album ‘Understand’ is about to be reissued on Needle Mythology. Ken details his early musical life which in the early 80s featured a mod band called Instant Party. There was talk of a self released demo tape sold at gigs so of course we had to investigate. Instant Party were Ken Sweeney (vocals & guitar), Peter Devlin (bass & vocals) and Alan Bates (drums). This 1984 demo was produced by Ken’s brother Dave Sweeney of The Vipers. Ken went on to form Brian with Niall Austin, Peter continues to record and perform with The Devlins and Alan was a member of The Modfathers.
