The Dave Fanning Show on 2FM featured a weekly in concert segment with a 30 minute live recording from a band of the day. Something Happens! featured in session last week but we came across this recording on the Something Happens facebook group and couldn’t resist. It’s a two parter so we pretty have the full show. By the way the lads have just announced they are to play at the Killarney Festival on June 27th alongside The Undertones and The Frank & Walters.

Something Happens! – Cork 14th June 2014

Something Happens! need no introduction but readers may not be aware that Tom Dunne, Ray Harman, Alan Byrne and Eamonn Ryan are playing a rare gig at the Cork Summer Show on Saturday 14th June from 5pm to 6.30pm. The band recently played a very well received 30 year anniversary at Whelan’s in Dublin. This was preceeded by a performance on the RTE Late Late Show which saw them exercise some underused muscles – check out this Cork Independent interview.

The photos come courtesy the folks behind the Sir Henrys Exhibition who are busy digging out material for what promises to be another compulsory Leeside visit (we’ve been busy updating posts with photos from bands we had never seen before!). Check out the twitter feed for arrivals as they come in and of course help out if you have something in the attic.

Ahead of their sold out gig in Whelan’s last Saturday Something Happens! appeared on Ray D’Arcy’s TodayFM show on Friday to have a chat and play a couple of tunes ‘Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello’ and ‘Parachute’. The first reviews on fan Yahoo! group [Room29] are glowing and apparently a Cork festival date in June has been announced.

Something Happens! – Too Long 12″

I believe these Something Happens! tracks are from the ‘What Now?’ 12″ (1990) which Dave probably played on his show on release. Something Happens are playing Whelan’s Dublin on 30th Dec 2011.

Ha that got your attention! Today I’m going to send you to another blog Dublin Opinion where they’ve been doing sterling work posting some very rare demos and yes came across the very first Something Happens! demo and have been kind enough to post it complete with scan of the inlay. So off you go and enjoy a piece of history. There are also demos from The Secret Goldfish, The Boneshakers, Modus Vivendi and The Outpatients.

Comprising Tom Dunne (vocals), Ray Harman (guitar), Alan Byrne (bass) and Eamonn Ryan (drums) this Dublin act have just announced a gig in Whelan’s on Dec 30th. Something Happens! have already featured once but this track was my first introduction to the band and to this day remains my favourite track by them. It’s one they recorded and released a number of times but I’ll always prefer this particular version. Originally released on their debut ‘Two Chances’ EP in 1986..
