It’s too late to submit your vote but you might be interested to see who was on the shortlist for the Smithwicks / Hot Press Public Vote Award as published in the 12th December 1991 edition of Hot Press magazine. Votes were not restricted to the listed bands.
From Dublin, LiR were originally Craig Hutchinson (drums), David McGuinness (vocals), Robert Malone (bass), David Hopkins (keyboards & piano) and Ronan Byrne (guitar). In 1992 they released an EP ‘All Machines Hum in A’ followed by an album ‘Magico Magico!’ in 1993. The subject of a recent documentary ‘Good Cake Bad Cake’ by Shimmy Marcus, they will be performing a fundraiser in Vicar Street in Dublin on 24th September with David Gray and Pugwash to raise funds to defend an upcoming legal action. LiR recorded this session for Dave Fanning in late 1991.
