a house is dead vicar st

This Thursday in Vicar Street, Dave Couse & Fergal Bunbury will bring their A House Is Dead project to the stage one final time. Here are some of the recent radio appearances followed by some words by Fergal on facebook.

Dave Fanning  (2fm 24th Nov 2019)

For The Record – Dan Hegarty (2fm 27th Nov 2019)

Richie McCormack (Newstalk 22nd Nov 2019)

Paul McLoone (TodayFM 21st Nov 2019)

The thing is this. There will be no London, Limerick, Cork or anywhere else IAMSTILLTHEGREATEST shows. Unfortunately, we don’t think any of these would be viable. We’re not even sure if there’s enough people who care to make Vicar Street viable but we’re gonna do it anyway and then we’re out. Whatever myself and Dave do in the future, either separately or together, it won’t be this. We spent many years bringing the noise to cities and venues all over Ireland, England, America and a few in Europe but just this once, the world will have to come to us. Why Vicar Street? We were born in Dublin and first picked up guitars in Dublin. We are it and it is we. The sold out NCH show was so beautiful and powerful that we decided to give something back. Some people expressed their reluctance to get their freak on in the hallowed confines of the National Concert Hall so this one is for the dancers and the dreamers. The show will be performed with all the raging intensity that we bring to everything we do. It will have the power, the screens, the slides, the multi generational IAMAFRAID , eight songs we didn’t play in June and then we will be gone, like slanting rain. I urge anyone who is interested to attend. Don’t be the one saying I wish I went to that or worse, saying you went when you didn’t.

A House Is Dead – NCH June 29th 2019

They said it would never come to pass, we said it would never come to pass. Thankfully we were wrong. On June 29th Dave Couse and Fergal Bunbury will reimagine ‘I Am The Greatest’ the 3rd album by A House at the National Concert Hall. We will be at the head of the virtual queue tomorrow at 10am looking for a ticket. Dave and Fergal joined Paul McLoone on TodayFM tonight to discuss this turn of events.

Dave Couse – St Patrick’s Day (2016)

St Patrick’s Day wouldn’t be the same without a dose of Dave Couse. Over the years Dave has recorded a number of all Irish music shows, ‘An Teach Solas’ being a loose translation of ‘The Lighthouse’ the name Dave’s show used have back before the suits at TodayFM thought that name was too confusing. Anyway sit back and enjoy 2 hours of good music hosted by our favourite DJ and there’s even a request for you know who;-) Playlist here. Thank you Ferg for the artwork.

An honourable mention goes to Tom Dunne who is hosting what promises to be another entertaining show tonight at 10pm on Newstalk. He has asked his listeners to answer 3 questions and himself and Ken Sweeney will be considering and playing the answers. Tom also promises classic sessions from Future Kings Of Spain, Ten Speed Racer , Gemma Hayes, Ash, Hozier and more. Can all that be done in a mere 2 hours?

1. First Irish act you remember seeing live
2. Best ever Irish band live
3. Fave Irish Artist

How do I casually mention that Mr Dave Couse is back on our airwaves from Monday 3rd November filling in for Paul McLoone on TodayFM? How about another Dave Fanning interview? This one features ‘I Think I’m Going Mad’ (live), ‘Call Me Blue’ (brand new single out 11th July), ‘You Break Me Up’ (live), ‘Heart Happy’ (live) and ‘Plain or Pearl’ (another of the 4 tracks from the 12″). Check out Dave 3rd – 13th November 9pm-midnight on TodayFM.

Dave Couse in for Paul McLoone this week

Radio listeners missing their weekly ration of A House frontman Dave Couse of a Sunday night will be happy to hear that he is back on our airwaves, temporarily at least, all this week on TodayFM. Dave will be in Paul McLoone‘s chair from 9pm – midnight, Monday – Thursday this week while Paul is busy with The Undertones. Dave last sat in back in April and he was kind enough to say some very nice things about us and play a few tracks which we suggested. So turn off the TV and tune in your radio, who knows, you might like what you hear!

TodayFM to axe Dave Couse Show

Posted in radio with tags , on March 18, 2014 by Fanning Sessions

Listeners to Sunday’s Dave Couse Show on TodayFM this week got a little more than they bargained for. Dave was hosting a special all Irish ‘An Teach Solas‘ edition to commemorate our national holiday when with 15 minutes to go he announced that his show was to be axed. Dave had apparently known for some time but as he himself says, naively thought a reprieve might come. Alas that was not the case and the Sunday evening 10pm – midnight show which has been running for almost 6 years has but two final installments remaining. Check out the show on the TodayFM player.

Dave Couse – St Patricks Day (2013)

We like radio specials and Dave Couse is revisiting what we still call ‘An Teach Solas‘ this Sunday for only the third time. He hasnt said too much on the subject but we are hoping for 3 hours of Irish rock music from the last 4 decades all hand chosen by the frontman of Dublin’s A House interspersed with a few anecdotes. An Teach Solas is a loose translation for The Lighthouse which is what Dave’s TodayFM Sunday night show used to be called before the suits became confused. We hope to record the show and post it here for posterity but just in case you’d like to catch it live consider yourselves forewarned.

P.S. Ed Smith producer of the Paul McLoone show and host of ‘Ed’s Indie Disco‘ 10pm Saturday nights on TodayFM is also hosting an all Irish edition for the weekend that’s in it.

Update: Adding the audio for those who missed the show. Tracklist to follow.

Came across this snippet when working on the recently posted 1990 interview, this is a short segment from 1991 with A House prior to the release of their third album ‘I Am the Greatest’. Up for discussion are: getting dropped by Blanco Y Negro, the vocals for ‘Heart Happy’. signing to Setanta Records, Keith Cullen, not getting on the BBC playlist. If the remainder turns up I shall update the post.

Prior to the release of their second album ‘I Want Too Much’ Dave Couse (vocals & guitar), Fergal Bunbury (guitar), Martin Healy (bass), Dermot Wylie (drums) aka A House had a chat with Dave Fanning from London where the band were performing as part of an Irish rock week in The Mean Fiddler. The performance of ‘Violent Love’ at the end is well worth the wait. Dave Couse can of course be heard every Sunday on TodayFM from 10pm until midnight.

– Shivers Up My Spine (album)
– 13 Wonderful Lovesongs (live)

An Teach Solas 2.0

Posted in radio with tags , , on March 6, 2012 by Fanning Sessions

Dave Couse (A House) has a TodayFM Sunday night show called The Lighthouse. Two years ago he did an all Irish special called ‘An Teach Solas‘. Dave has now decided it’s time to do a second show in the same vein and is asking his listeners to request their favourite Irish tracks. The show goes out in two weeks on St Patricks weekend from 10pm till midnight on March 18th. Dave has been known to extend the show if he doesnt manage to squeeze everything in and I’m hopeful this might be just one of those occasions. You can email him your requests or text TodayFM during his show next Sunday. He will not be able to play vinyl so if your choice is of that era he’ll need ample notice but he open to accepting MP3 submissions. Let the games begin..
