Today’s post has been on the to do list for quite some time but the activities of the Irish Broadcasting Hall of Fame and their touring Irish Pirate Radio Exhibition finally pushed us over the edge. Yours truly spent a number of formative years living in Limerick and the weekends were rendered significantly more pleasant thanks to the efforts of a certain show on a local pirate radio station. The show in question was hosted by Barry Martin and featured a healthy dollop of indie interspersed with more classic alternative fare with jazz and spoken word thrown in for good measure. The show went out late at the weekend on Sound Channel 98.7 FM. Further details escape but thankfully circa 90 minutes of recordings of said show survive across a number of cassette tapes and have now been digitised and uploaded for posterity. Credit for the newspaper scan goes to Ian B and can be found on Liam Byrne’s Limerick Radio Site.
