At The Window (1987 Session)

It’s hard to believe this blog has been going so long and even harder to believe I never posted this before. At The Window featured 3 years ago with a personal favourite ‘State Aid‘ recorded as part of a Fanning session. That track struck a chord with other readers and recently seekenee managed to dig out some video footage of the band performing that song for RTE’s ‘Visual Eyes‘. Today I have what I believe to be a demo recorded by the band and broadcast by Barry Martin on Limerick pirate radio station The Sound Channel in the late 80s. I could be wrong as a number of unidentified tracks posted prove but my own handwriting states that this is At The Window so here goes. If anyone has any further details on the band please get in touch or even better leave a comment. Also thank you for the excellent comments on my recent manifesto. If anyone has any pull at RTE now is your chance.. Update: thanks to two readers we now have the band lineup, it was Nick Knight (guitars, pedals) Eamonn Lenihan (bass, vocals), Paul Lehane (drums) and a song title.

  1. AT THE WINDOW was a three piece band based in Shannon Co.Clare. They copmrised of Eamon Lehane, Nick Knight and Paul Lehane, I knew Eamon and Paul from other bands, At The Window played in Limerick in Oct 85 at the Savoy Top Floor sharing a bill with Rhythm Sector a local reggae based band with Mike Ryan ex The Outfit,Barry Donnelly, Peter Fielding,John Noonan, Ber O’Neill and one other whose name escapes me. I met Eamon Lehane in the early 90s and we worked together on a Limerick City Council based FAS CE Arts Scheme, Hope this helps.

  2. The name of this track is “White Sheets” 2nd version (recorded late ’87 in a cottage At the Window had rented in the back of Shannon Airport. The original session (which was sent to Dave Fanning) was November ’83 in Park Hall Shannon recorded by Eamonn Lenihan and Donal Fean on a Teac 144 Portastudio. The Band: Nick Knight guitars, pedals… Eamonn Lenihan – Bass, Vocals, recording, Paul Lehane – Drums. Songs by Eamonn and Nick. *By the way Eamon Lehane (Paul’s brother) is a traditional musician from Shannon and is not a participant in any of their music.

Thank you very much John and Donal! I don’t suppose we have any other gems in your own tape collections 😉

  4. I remember State Aid as I also had a recording of the session from 87. Great lyrical band from Shannon. Thanks for posting this little gem.

  5. Can confirm that Eamonn Lehane may have often been in the audience but never up on stage with the band. Just found a VHS copy of promo video for “The Waltz” – that’s now up on youtube.

  6. Nick Knight Says:

I have loads of stuff on mini disc…….

  7. Fanning Sessions Says:

Hello Nick, any chance you could be persuaded to dig out some of those minidiscs?
