Fanning’s Fab 50 (2008 & 2009)

I stopped listening about 20 years ago but the Fab Fifty is 29 this year. Looking at last years chart I see only 4 irish acts and those are; U2 (5 entries), Snow Patrol (2), Horslips and The Undertones. I think Dave should revamp the chart and restrict it to music released in the previous 12 months. If you want to see what the Fab Fifty looked like 23 years ago ie in 1986, I tried to piece it together here and count 12 irish bands and 16 irish entries so far. By the way, if anyone would like to listen to those tapes you’ll have to make me an offer!

From Hot Press, 26 Nov 2009:

Listeners have until Sunday 13 December at midnight to vote for their three favourite songs or tracks of all time on RTÉ 2fm’s website.

Now in its 29th year, Fanning’s Fab 50 is RTÉ 2fm’s alternative music poll, mixing new acts with classic rock and indie tunes to give a guide to what people are really listening to out there.

The 2fm website carries the list of the albums up for grabs as well as last year’s Fab 50 to let you know what fans voted for.

  1. I remember missing a few Christmas nights just to tape these.

‘Sex On Fire’ is the most annoying song ever.

Ok maybe just behind The Killers ‘Are We Human’ or whatever it is called.

  2. Fanning Sessions Says:

Hi Neil. I presume you’re talking about the Fab Fifty back in the day? Do you still have those (or indeed any other) cassettes?

I was doing some housekeeping last night so that’s why this old post may have shown up in your reader 😉

  3. ian wilson Says:

  4. Fanning Sessions Says:
